Read Lillian’s Story
It feels like a close-knit community.
Why I chose to move to Tillsonburg Retirement
Lillian’s connection to Tillsonburg Retirement began long before she moved in. Her family is from Tillsonburg, and her mother once lived there, forming meaningful friendships within the home. When the time came to consider retirement living, the familiarity of the community and its people made the decision feel natural.
People welcomed me just as I am
Because the move was her own choice and she had the summer to prepare, Lillian’s transition was smooth and reassuring. Adjusting to scheduled meal and sleep times was new, but she embraced the routine with positivity and gratitude.
“
The staff are spectacular.

The people make this home
Lillian treasures the friendships she has formed and the many activities that bring residents together. She appreciates that the residence is not large, making it easy to know people and feel part of a close-knit community. She often describes the staff as spectacular in the care, kindness, and respect they show each day.
Activities I enjoy and staying connected
She finds joy in reading, knitting, enjoying quiet time after dinner, and spending time with her daughter. Coffee outings with longtime friends remain especially meaningful.
Advice for someone considering retirement living
Lillian wholeheartedly recommends Tillsonburg Retirement. When visitors tour the home, she often shares her experience, speaking warmly about the friendships, caring staff, and sense of belonging that define daily life.
A lifetime of stories to share
Lillian earned a nursing degree and especially valued her work on a geriatric ward, where caring for others became both profession and calling. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge and spent many winters in Florida with her husband. Her life also included attending boarding school in Toronto, travelling in Italy, and living in northern Saskatchewan.
Who inspires me now
Family remains at the heart of Lillian’s life, especially the close bond she shares with her daughter.
Friendship found me again
After the loss of her husband, Lillian experienced a long period of deep sadness. Since moving into retirement living, friends have lovingly told her that “the old Lillian is back”—a reflection of renewed joy, connection, and purpose.
Feeling happier, connected and completely myself
Today, Lillian feels happy, supported, and at peace. Surrounded by friendship and compassionate care, she has rediscovered joy and belonging in this new chapter.
