Why I chose to move to Tillsonburg Retirement

Deanna chose Tillsonburg Retirement after observing the respectful and compassionate way staff treated residents. That sense of dignity and kindness reassured her that this was the right place for the long term. As she lovingly says, if she is there, it is for the long haul. The welcoming community of Tillsonburg, with its small-town connection and familiar surroundings, also helped her feel at home.

A smooth and welcoming transition

Deanna’s transition felt natural and positive, with no unexpected challenges. She quickly embraced daily life, appreciating the comfort of having meals prepared, supportive staff nearby, and companionship all around her.

My favourite part of life here

For Deanna, it is the people—including the caring staff—who make the greatest difference. Conversations, smiles, and shared moments of joy create a true sense of belonging.

Activities I enjoy and staying connected

Deanna finds joy in quiet creativity and meaningful connection. Working on diamond art in her room brings peace and focus, while painting with Nadine, the Life Enrichment Manager, offers expression, colour, and shared enjoyment. The team’s encouragement helps her stay engaged and inspired.

Advice for someone considering retirement living

Her advice is thoughtful and wise: take time to research, understand what matters most to you, and pay close attention to how staff interact with residents. Compassion and respect make all the difference in choosing the right home.

The meaningful work and connections that shaped my life

Deanna’s life reflects dedication and deep love. She and her husband owned two restaurants for many years, and she also shared her talents through jewellery making and caring for children. Married at sixteen, their partnership lasted sixty-two years. Her husband remains the most meaningful part of her life and continues to inspire her every day.

Who inspires me now

Deanna continues to be inspired by her husband’s memory. She often reflects on how they did everything together and still finds herself seeking his guidance.

Rediscovering friendship and connection

Since moving to Tillsonburg Retirement, Deanna has rediscovered the power of friendship and encouragement. She takes pride in lifting others’ spirits, sharing laughter, and offering positivity to those around her.

How life has changed for the better

Surrounded by compassionate support and the warmth of the Tillsonburg community, Deanna feels secure, valued, and at home. She wholeheartedly recommends Tillsonburg Retirement to others seeking connection, care, and a welcoming place to live.
